The Big Band (conducted by Y. Palamarchuk), the youngest orchestral representative, boasts exceptional originality among the creative teams of M. Glinka Conservatoire of Dnipropetrovsk. Its basic characteristic traits are the originality of the repertoire palette, jazz orchestra instruments and the creativity of the orchestra’s performing activity.
The educational and pedagogical range of musical compositions performed by the Big Band of the Conservatoire includes works belonging to various jazz styles and trends. Among the best known names are swing, blues, mainstream, bebop, cool jazz, fusion, progressive jazz, soul jazz, groove, modal jazz, commercial jazz and many other lesser known jazz styles.
The range of instruments of the Big Band combines students-musicians of various specializations. Thus, the rhythm section brings together performers on piano, percussion (drums) and string instruments (double bass, bass-guitar). Group of wood wind instruments is represented by saxophones and sometimes clarinet and flute. Brass instruments are trumpets and trombones.
The Big Band takes an active art in concerts and artistic life of M. Glinka Conservatoire. Glinka. The success of the annual Ukrainian Festival-Competition "In the World of Jazz" created the basis for improving the status of the event to the international level. Thus began the creative project of jazz music within the International Festival of Music Art "Music without Limits".
In concerts the jazz band performs compositions of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Paul Whiteman, Fletcher Henderson, Quincy Jones and other famous jazz composers.
The jazz orchestra actively participates in various concert events, programs, creative projects dedicated to celebrations in the city of Dnepropetrovsk and region.
